Il mistero, italiano?

Era stata l’ultrasoft la chiave del successo di Hamilton un anno fa a Monte Carlo. È l’ultrasoft, la gomma con la banda viola, che dodici mesi dopo spiega gli affanni soprattutto in qualifica. Lewis ai giornalisti domenica sera diceva:

Coming to Monaco, I was thinking we would have some seriously strong races coming up with tracks I am generally strong at, but this issue with the tyres is a bit of an unknown and we’re going to the next race with the same tyre.

It’s only the ultra-soft that’s been an issue, so that’s really what I have got to try and understand with the team this week.

Hamilton sabato è andato in crisi, domenica in qualche modo s’è rialzato. “Un mistero tutto italiano” lo definisce Toto Wolff. E là non volendo apre la porta al sospetto che la rete non si lascia sfuggire: Pirelli, Ferrari, un’intesa italiana nella composizione delle mescole. Che Gina – come la chiama Vettel – evidentemente sposa alla grande.

Tronchetti Provera trova il tempo di replicare e smentire a nome di Pirelli. La verità è che l’ultima Mercedes è più complessa, in un certo senso più capricciosa e quindi più “diva” come la chiama Wolff rispetto a quelle che l’hanno preceduta e hanno vinto il mondiale:

It’s very tricky to get the tyres into the window and make the front axle work and at the same time make the rear axle work. And you can see that, on his lap, the car drops in and drops out, unfortunately mostly out of it.

In Spagna c’era voluto un pacchetto aerodinamico ad hoc per migliorare l’interazione fra telaio, sospensioni e gomme. Aveva funzionato. Monte Carlo invece conferma che la W08 – complice anche il passo più lungo – lavora in una finestra troppo stretta. Dentro la quale magari effettivamente è imbattibile. Ma dentro quella finestra bisogna prima portarcela.
