Perché la Ferrari non trovava le gomme di Leclerc al pit stop? Perché Leclerc ha deciso di entrare ai box all’ultimo secondo, praticamente senza preavviso. “Giusto, ma tardivo”, ammette Vasseur. Ad ogni modo, nel box nessuno si era preparato all’eventualità, nonostante fosse previdibile una mossa estrema, viste le condizioni in cui si trovava la pista…
Perché Leclerc non aveva ritmo? Perché ha pagato le sgomitate della partenza. Il danno più evidente, la rottura della bandella sinistra dell’ala anteriore. Ma la Ferrari aveva un guasto serio anche al fondo, forse per effetto di un’escursione nella sabbia, al punto che Leclerc ha perso 60 punti di carico aerodinamico:
Already the first lap, when I had the damage, I could feel much more than the guys were telling me on the radio. Initially, it was five to 10 points as what I’ve been told. Then we realised that it was more than 60. And more than 60 is a different category.
Perché la Mercedes ha steccato tutte le chiamate ai box? Perché non aveva le informazioni giuste sull’evoluzione del meteo. L’ha svelato Russell in conferenza stampa rispondendo a una domanda di Racefans.net:
The information we had regarding the weather was totally wrong. So that was a real shame. A podium was missed. As a team we need to review because we’re getting the information coming in to us and it was misjudged, the weather. So, it’s not anything to do with racing or engineering, it was clearly just a weather misinterpretation and that ruined our afternoon.
Perché la Red Bull ha giocato l’undercut con Verstappen a danno di Perez? Secondo Horner, senza malizia. Semplicemente, bisognava chiamare dentro Verstappen per proteggerlo dall’undercut degli altri:
Alonso and, I think, Gasly behind him had pulled the trigger and pitted. And you could see from Albon suddenly the circuit was coming alive for the slicks. Had we pitted Checo first, they would have both undercut Max, so we’d have gone from a net one-two to a net one-four. So we pitted Max first with the risk being that he’d undercut Checo but we’d end up as a team as first and second. So it was a no-brainer.
Perché Perez ha preso 5 secondi di penalità? Per eccesso di velocità in pit lane, di 0.8 chilometri orari rispetto al limite di 60, al momento del passaggio dalle intermedie alle extreme wet al secondo nubifragio. Di qui la retrocessione dal terzo al quarto posto finale.
