La notte del deserto di Abu Dhabi gli porta il primo titolo nel 2021, la notte del deserto di Losail gli porta il terzo, nella gara sprint del sabato che per la prima volta nella storia è aritmeticamente decisiva per un campionato:
I think the first one was the most emotional one, because that’s when your dreams are fulfilled in Formula 1. But this one has definitely been my best year for consecutive wins and stuff like that, the car itself has been probably in the best shape as well. So for me, this one is probably the one I’m the most proud of in a way, because of the consistency.
Parla di costanza, Max Verstappen, del martello che è stato dal via del mondiale: 13 vittorie su 16 Gran Premi, delle quali 10 consecutive fra Miami e Monza. Praticamente, per 119 giorni di fila vince solo lui. Il commento di Horner:
The way he has driven this year has just been out of this world. You have to take a moment to reflect. Everything he has done this year has been phenomenal.
Lo riconosce anche Stefano Domenicali, che nella stagione spaziale di Verstappen individua due momenti da standing ovation:
The last sector of his last qualifying lap in Monaco and the first sector during qualifying at Suzuka. In those two moments, I personally gave him a standing ovation. Max is showing that you can make a difference with pure racing talent.
Perez sulla carta è l’unico che gli può tenere testa tecnicamente, mantiene la sfida in pareggio fino a Baku, dopodiché si perde e non si ritrova. Prima di Losail svela:
At the start of the season, the car didn’t suit me perfectly. But the cars evolve over the course of the season. After Miami, things got worse. I’d like to see how he reacts when (if) Lewis finds himself back in a wholly competitive Mercedes, but right now – with the way he handles himself and his car – he has every right to hold his head high in the company of any of his great predecessors in the sport.
